Ubeco in Panglao, Bohol: Great Comfort Food in a Minimalist Setup Dining Experience

We were in Panglao, Bohol for a quick vacation a week ago. On the first day, we don't have other plans aside from settling down in a hostel that my wife booked ahead on the island. We were just about to finish tidying our bags when we arrived at the place, and freshen up a bit before having dinner somewhere nearby when one of her colleagues working at Panglao Airport invited us for dinner that night at a place called Ubeco. She told us that the restaurant is known to most Korean tourists and love the place because they find the food and experience really satisfying.

Ubeco in Panglao, Bohol is one of the many foreign-owned establishments on the island. Its name was derived from the combination of two known local ingredients "ube" and "coconut", which results in the unique name Ubeco. This restaurant has a very modern minimalist setup, which was very refreshing to see in this otherwise very tropical setting on the island.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly staff who asked us for how many persons and immediately brought us to a vacant table. As we sat down in the restaurant waiting for the others to arrive, we both remarked on how cozy the ambiance was. The lighting is just perfect and the music is just right to set the mood for a relaxing dinner with friends.

The squad

After a while, my wife's colleagues arrived. We were all pretty hungry so we decided to order right away. While waiting for the food, we were served tuna salad crackers topped with olives on the house together with the wine we ordered.

Seafood, seafood, seafood, this dish will not be missed if it's on the menu. We ordered two seafood dishes and one of them is the Coconut shrimp which looks and tastes really great. It's a crispy fried shrimp coated with coconut flake that comes with a manga-chili dipping sauce.

The other seafood dish that we had is the Deep fried calamari. It's a crispy fried squid with potato fries served in two different dipping sauces. Best eaten when it's a bit hot and all crispy.

Another dish that we had is Lemon tuna pasta which is one of the four pasta on their menu. As a pasta lover, I would say this dish did hit the spot. The fresh lemony smell of the dish really stands out and would lead you to a bite.

The dining experience was great overall and will recommend the restaurant to guests and tourists in Panglao. So when in Panglao, stop by Ubeco for a taste of great comfort food, or if you want to take a breather, it's perfect for slow mornings and afternoons just to relax.
